In Osnabrück, there are three main arrival points: the airport Münster/Osnabrück, the central railway station and the central bus station. If you plan to arrive by car, you should purchase a detailed map of Germany / Osnabrück. On the internet you will find the Citymap Osnabrück.

Airport

The airport Münster/Osnabrück is located ca. 35 km from Osnabrück. There are taxis waiting at ground level day and night, but please note that a taxi ride to Osnabrück is not cheap. Taking the bus costs much less, and the ride is relatively short. The comfortable buses of the line X150 , which operate regularly and late into the night, have convenient drop off points in Osnabrück’s city centre, such as Heger Tor, Neumarkt or the central railway station. If you are arriving very late at night, however,  your means of transport are limited. If you want to save the money for the hotel or the taxi ride, you can even spend the rest of the night in the airport and ride into town the next morning. The first airport express bus leaves at 5:45 am on week-days and at 6:00 am on weekends (timetable winter 2008/2009)

Central Railway Station

Osnabrück central station is located in the centre of the city. The ServicePoint of the Deutsche Bahn can be found in the main hall. Here you can get information concerning train travel, schedules for regional and long-distance trains as well as further details about the city and its hotels. The Service Point is open from 6 am to 10 pm.

The Bahnhofsmission (traveller's aid) also gives out information and helps travellers in need. It is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 am to 7 pm, and Sundays from 2 pm to 6 pm.

Central Bus Station

Osnabrück’s central bus station is situated directly in front of the entrance to the main railway station. With the city and regional buses that stop here  you can easily reach the city centre as well as the suburbs and neighboring districts. Please note that you may need to change buses at Neumarkt station, which is two stops away from main station.

Where can I Spend the First Nights?

At http://www.hotel.de you will find a list of hotels, and you can book a room online. A cheap alternative is the Youth Hostel Osnabrück (here you can book accommodations online as well). It is located about 2,5 km from the main station. You can buy a 1-Zone ticket and take the busline 21 "Kreishaus / Zoo". Get off at the “Kinderhospital“stop. The youth hostel is a short walk  away (about 150 m – see the Citymap).
If you own a youth hostel card from your home country, you should show it. The youth hostels of the German Youth Hostel Association accept cards from over 60 countries.

Another option for affordable accommodations is the backpacker hotel  Penthouse Backpackers, located not far from the central railway station.
