Medicine & Health
Further details on medical care and the health system in Germany are available on the homepage of the DAAD under the heading “Health and insurance”. Here you will find all relevant information about the health insurance system, medical doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and much more. Please see below for some important links specific to Osnabrück:
Medical Doctors
In the Gelbe Seiten (Yellow Pages) you will find the Übersicht von ÄrztInnen (list of doctors) in the city and region of Osnabrück, listed according to their areas of expertise.
If you fall ill, you should contact a general practitioner (check the list mentioned above for the heading "Ärzte: Allgemeinmedizin"). You will either be treated there directly or transferred to a medical specialist.
Please note that the office hours at doctors’ offices are much shorter than the opening hours of shops. Outside the office hours please contact the Ärztliche Notdienste (medical emergency services).
Hospitals
At Osnabrück.de you will find a list of the hospitals in Osnabrück City and the Osnabrück Region. A more comprehensive list can be found on the page Gesundheitsregion Osnabrück.
Pharmacies
There are so many pharmacies in Osnabrück that you will have no problem finding one. Outside the regular operating hours you can contact the Apothekernotdienst (pharmacy emergency service).

One more Tip
If you fall ill for a longer period of time, please get a doctors’ note! If your studies exceed the maximum number of semesters allowed, it may be necessary to prove that you were ill for certain lengths of time. If you are missing an exam due to illness, you must produce a medical attestation as well.
