Studying in Osnabrück

Living in Osnabrück

You can truly look forward to your stay in Osnabrück! You will be enchanted by this picturesque, overseeable and friendly city. With its 163,000 inhabitants, Osnabrück has nothing of the anonymity found in many large cities, yet it is big enough to foster a varied cultural scene.
Your student ID counts as a so-called Semesterticket,  allowing you use the well-connected public transportation system without any additional costs. In the city centre,  the various destinations can just as easily be reached by foot or by bike.
Besides the city’s varied selection of bars, clubs and discos there are numerous traditional open air events and street fairs that take place throughout the year. Among the highlights are the Osnabrücker Maiwoche,  the city flea-markets and the historic Christmas market.
In addition, the lively music scene,  several  movie theatres,  a number of independent theatre groups and our theatre—renowned for its high-profile programme of plays, musicals and dance performances—guarantee a broad spectrum of entertainment for your leisure time.
There are also ample opportunities for sports and exercise; public swimming pools, an ice-rink and a range of sports clubs are only a few of the many possibilities.
Osnabrück is located in a beautiful and historic landscape,  a fact that makes day trips an attractive  option at any time of year. The Museum Industriekultur, for example,  is right outside the city gates and the alleged site of the famous Varus-battle in Bramsche-Kalkriese is also in easy reach.

As for the weather in Osnabrück, extreme weather  conditions are very rare in this region. In the summers, the temperature only rarely rises above  28°C, and in the winter it barely ever sinks below -3°C. But make sure to bring an umbrella!

You will feel very comfortable in our city!
