Psychological Counselling
We all go through difficult phases in our private lives or at university. It’s not always possible to overcome such difficulties quickly or without assistance. If you find yourself in such a phase, do not hesitate to accept our help.
What we can offer
We all go through difficult phases in our private lives or at university. It’s not always possible to overcome such difficulties quickly or without assistance. If you find yourself in such a phase, do not hesitate to accept our help.
The Psychosocial Counselling Centre provides confidential individual sessions or group meetings if you’re troubled by
- Exam anxiety or learning difficulties
- Loneliness or a lack of contacts
- Problems with your parents
- Stress with friends or in a relationship
- Feelings of sadness, self-doubt or anxiety
- Anxieties about the future or disorientation
- Alcohol, drugs and other dependencies
or any other worries.
To ensure that problems do not develop into an insurmountable crisis, we’ll work with you to figure out a solution.
You are not alone!
Sometimes it may help just to know that you’re not alone with your problems. And yet most students don’t realise that many of their fellow students have similar problems.
According to a study carried out by our umbrella organisation, the Deutsches Studentenwerk (German National Association for Student Affairs), a quarter of all students experience serious mental health problems at university.
And yet crises can be managed – you can prepare for difficult situations long before they occur. Our Counselling Centre team will help you prepare for such situations.
What to expect from the first session?
During the first session, you’ll have sufficient time to describe your problem. Together, we’ll then consider what kind of support may help you – for example, ongoing counselling sessions here at the PSB, pair or group sessions, or a place on one of our courses or workshops.
If you require additional assistance, we’ll help you find the services you need. Examples include the various counselling and advisory services offered by the universities and the City of Osnabrück, or registered therapists, doctors or clinics.
What's the objective of counselling?
The short-term objective of counselling is to cope with a problem you may have. We’ll help you gain a deeper understanding of your problems and the experiences that caused them. We’ll guide you in finding solutions to your problems and in developing the courage to make the necessary changes.
Where study-related problems are concerned, we’ll work with you to figure out the reasons why you’re unable to learn effectively. Together, we’ll develop individual strategies to prepare you for your exams, enabling you to cope with day-to-day student life and with exams.
