Sustainability

Not only should food taste great – it should also be healthy and, ideally, environmentally sound. This is why we pay close attention to where our products come from and the conditions under which they were produced.

Reusable tableware

To avoid waste from disposable packaging as much as possible, we offer reusable dishes in a deposit system in our refectories and cafeterias. There is the option of using our MEHRbeWEGen bowls or cups. These are made of high-quality plastic without bisphenol A.

Should you still wish to use disposable tableware, we offer "coffee to go" cups, packaging or cutlery made from renewable and compostable raw materials.

Climate plate

In times of climate change, environmentally conscious action is important. Osnabrück Student Services’ catering teams can significantly reduce the production of emissions by selecting the right ingredients. For example, the use of plant-based, fresh, seasonal and regional ingredients can optimize dishes’ climate balance.

Climate plate dishes (KlimaTeller in German) are part of the MENSA GLOBAL menu. These dishes are prepared in a climate-friendly way and are marked with the KlimaTeller symbol if they cause at least 50 percent less CO2 emissions than an average dish.

Organic label "Bio"

Eat organic

There’s an ever-growing demand for organic food, and the dining halls and cafeterias run by Osnabrück Student Services know this. As a result, we are organic certified and use the organic label to mark our organic ingredients.

Logo of the company NEULAND

Meat from Neuland

Most of the meat served in the dining halls comes from our supplier Neuland. This company is well known for its species-appropriate and environmentally safe animal husbandry, as confirmed by the Friends of the Earth Germany (BUND) and the German Animal Welfare Federation.

Dishes containing meat produced by Neuland are labelled with the Neuland logo in the dining halls and on the menus.

Fish from sustainable fisheries

We also pay attention to environmental protection in our choice of fish. We only serve fish from stocks that are not endangered, or fish farmed in controlled aquaculture systems. By doing so, we are helping protect the world’s ocean resources.

Logo of FAIRTRADE

Coffee & tea

Organic and fair

Fairtrade organic coffee and tea is offered at all cafeterias run by Osnabrück Student Services, and milk comes from organically farmed sources.

Regional offers

As the largest community caterer in the Osnabrück region, we have a great responsibility for the region’s climate footprint. With this in mind, we choose our suppliers carefully.

Suppliers from the region are given preferential treatment as a general rule. We also mainly use seasonal ingredients to avoid unnecessary cooling, saving energy.

Sustainable waste management

Our dishes are prepared fresh in portions. We calculate the ingredients required every single day. This enables us to avoid waste – food does not end up in the bin.

Unavoidable waste is separated and recycled.

No genetically modified food

There are no cloned or genetically modified products in any of our dishes.
